Composite bonding is one of the most conservative, versatile and affordable ways to aesthetically restore a multitude of cosmetic problems. In bonding, we apply tooth-colored material to the surface of the tooth; layer-by-layer in a way an artist applies paint to a canvas. Bonding covers discolored areas of the tooth, repairs chips, breaks and cracks, fills in gaps and can transform irregularly shaped teeth. A composite resin restoration may be used when only a small amount of tooth structure needs replacement.

Cosmetic Contouring is a reshaping procedure that repairs fractured or worn teeth due to accidents or habitual grinding. This helps to build up the teeth so cracking and breaking don’t become a major problem. Veneers and bonding can be interchangeable treatments; however, in some situations veneers are suggested because they will last longer.

Bonded composite ‘fillings’ are not limited to new cavities. There are numerous reasons why older ‘fillings’ may need replacing. If this is the case, we can use these newer, more esthetic materials at that time. Composite ‘fillings’ are a natural-looking, healthier alternative to metal fillings, which can fill an otherwise bright smile with dark spots. Conventional metal amalgam material can hide decay and weaken the natural tooth. Metal fillings are inserted (plugged in) usually after removing large parts of the healthy tooth. Over time, a crown may be needed because the tooth is weaker and subsequently cracks. Composite resin ‘fillings’ are bonded to the tooth, avoiding the need to remove larger, healthy portions of the tooth. This can save more of your natural tooth for many years.
